Brakes and Clutches in Dartford

What does it mean if my Porsche clutch fails?

It is unlikely that you will be able to drive your car if you have a clutch failure because changing gear won't be possible because you can't deselect the current gear or move out of neutral.

For that reason you may need an emergency garage call out to tow your MG to a local Dartford garage who can replace the clutch.

As a result of separation of transmission and the engine being needed to allow installation of a replacement clutch, a lot of labour will be involved, making it a costly repair to undertake.

That is why for suspected clutch faults, making sure the mechanical problem is caused by the clutch is recommended instead of simply replacing the clutch.

How the brakes on your Alfa romeo work?

The way brakes work is the reverse of a clutch, because they stop and slow a car's speed down. Cars have two types of brakes - foot brakes (service brakes) and hand brakes. The parking brake is put on when a car is parked, and the service brake stops and slows the car whilst driving.

Foot brakes are activated when the brake pedal is pushed in which is the middle pedal in the foot well. Pistons inside the calliper then press against the brake disc on the wheel and the vehicle is slowed down by the friction this creates, by transforming the kinetic energy as the car is moving forwards into heat that passes into air around the wheels. If your brakes aren't functioning properly, make sure you consult the expertise of a Dartford garage.

Clutches in manual cars

Clutches are only present on manual vehicles.

Cars can only be put into a higher or lower gear if the clutch pedal, on the left hand side, is depressed.

A cable or connection that is hydraulic which links the pedal straight to the mechanism of the clutch which disengages the clutch plates by pushing the clutch foot pedal, which allows gear changing using the gear stick.

If clutch pedals are released before gears are fully engaged, a grinding noise will be heard, which is bad for the clutch.

Raising the clutch pressure gradually further to gear changing is how jerking can be prevented.

Braking system components

Brakes comprise of many parts, but most are hidden behind the hub caps are alloy wheels. Brake callipers on many sports cars however tend to be coloured making them stand out from the disc. Brake drums are located on back wheels where the parking brake applies brake shoes in order to hold the car if it is parked or on a gradient.

The callipers and brake discs are attached to the front wheels, and work when the service brake is pressed. The disc is rubbed against by the pistons in the calliper when compression of air or hydraulic fluid occurs in the brake hoses or pipes. Contact a Dartford car specialist or garage for brake part maintenance and repair.
