Why MOTs are needed for cars in

Brakes are the most significant vehicle safety feature, and MOT tests therefore check brakes on Fiat and Chevrolet cars to make sure they're effective. Service, road or foot brakes are used to slow moving vehicles down, whereas handbrakes and parking brakes on the rear wheels hold vehicles if it is parked or stopped on a gradient.
Brake performance tests are carried out to determine efficiency of brakes, using plate brake tests, roller brake tests and gradient tests. Inspections are carried out to identify whether there are any problems such as: parts leaking, there isn't any noise caused by vibration in flexible hoses, rigid pipes are not being affected by fouling off other parts, or chafing on brake components, and the reservoirs for hydraulic or air brakes are leak free and secure.

Testing carried out on tyres in
Tyres will be checked to ensure structure and type are correct, including assessment of the aspect ratio, which if between 80% and 82% is sufficient, so that ride height is not dramatically affected. The type of tyre that has been used will also be examined to determine whether they are cross ply, bias belted or radial-ply. Radial-ply tyres can comprise of either steel or fabric.
The wall of the tyres should also outline the sizing information, and generally is accompanied with a load index, ply rating and the speed symbol. Tyres should have a depth of 1.6mm continuously around the tyre and should cover the central three quarters of the rubber surface. In addition tyres should be free of any cuts or punctures or have any of the cords showing as there may be a possibility that your vehicle will fail the MOT unless replacement tyres are fitted.
