Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel was the venue for this years gala dinner to announce the Scottish Car of the Year, with the Range Rover Evoque named as the overall winner across all categories.
The 11 categories were Family, Small, Executive, Estate, SUV/Crossover, MPV, Diesel, Drop Top, Electric, Eco and Sporting with the Evoque winning their classification of SUV/Crossover and then going on to beat opposition from the other category winners.
The Association of Scottish Motoring President, John Murdoch, commented on the difficulty of selecting a winner due to the variety of excellent new cars which have become available over the last 12 months, more so as car manufacturers have risen to the challenges within the market place to produce vehicles with improved emissions, as well as safety features and features to make them economically viable purchases. The Evoque stood out as a worthy winner due to its desirability, sound packaging, fine driving dynamics and stylish good looks.
The British economy will benefit from the huge exports generated, with job security for hundreds of employees thanks to the advanced orders for the Range Rover Evoque, totaling 18,000 to date.
Landrovers’ Managing Director for the UK, Colin Green, stated their delight that the Range Rover Evoque had been crowned Scottish Car of the Year, which is considered to be one of the greatest accolades within the car industry. He went on to thank the association for the acknowledgement that the Evoque is the most exciting drive on Scottish roads for the year and the recognition the award will bring.
Global Brand Director for Landrover, John Edwards, added that the award was won as a result of the team effort between the departments of Marketing, Manufacturing, Product Development and Design, to name but a few, which helped create an exciting, outstanding and truly unique vehicle.
