The sophistication of in car technology is advancing more quickly than the technology used in the manufacture of the cars used to house it.
Drivers may one day become redundant, with cars one day expected to drive themselves. Motoring technology is primarily used to increase the safety of drivers and passengers, but many experts have question whether this is in fact happening.
Distraction is cited as the biggest cause of motoring accidents, and the almost space age technology being offered to motorists, however exciting, may in fact come at a price.
Not all new safety technology is being criticised however.
Voice operated systems are expected to become widely used in newly manufactured cars in as little as three years. This enables drivers to receive the latest traffic news, directions and maps. One advantage of this technology is that it interacts with the motorist through audio, meaning that the driver is not required to take their eyes off the road.
Radio wave technology is also being touted as the next big thing for vehicle technology. Radio waves such as Wi-Fi will allow cars to transmit their position to cars at a range of several hundred yards. This will mean that you car will be able to offer the motorist warnings, such as that of a quickly braking car in front.
Vehicle manufacturers, Kia, have announced that they are to incorporate motion sensing technology into their vehicles, which will allow them to sense the mood of a driver. Incredibly, this allows the car to sense how tired the driver is, and can even recommend taking a break.
