Claims are possible for damage to cars caused by council neglect

potholed road and carsDrivers in Swindon are being advised that if they can prove damage to their vehicle by providing photographic images and diagrams to show the location where the damage has taken place, they could possibly get the costs covered to repair their car. All they need to do is contact Swindon Council and ask to be sent a claim form which they need to complete and return, however the costs are only being covered due to damage as a consequence of negligence by the authorities.
Where there is a case of the exact location being identified for the suggested damage, the council will then have to contact the motorist and will require further information about the incident, this then may result in a delay of the investigation.

The location of the incident is consequently inspected by a highway inspector, as this is who the decision ultimatly lies with. Claimants are asked to return a completed claim form and attach two quotes for the cost to repair the damage, or alternatively would need to send a copy of any paid invoices in cases where work has already been carried out to the vehicle.

Even though these motorists may have had emergency repairs done to their vehicles, the compensation of the cost is no guarantee, so not all cases will be paid out; therefore the total costs are not always covered.
