Police have launched a wide spread investigation due to lots of car tyres which have been slashed in the Suffolk area of Bury St Edmonds.
All of the incidents took place on a Friday and Saturday night. The area where the vandalism took place was St Olaves Road, Clay Road, Hunter Road, Parkington Walk and Beard Road. There were more than 30 tyres slashed or punctured on these particular roads, affecting a total of 10 car owners.
The majority of the cars vandalised were parked on the side of the road rather than in a safer place like a driveway.
There was no pattern to the vandalism, as some cars had just 1 tyre slashed whilst other car owners were less fortunate and incurred 3 of 4 tyre damages. According to a statement released by a police spokeswomen, the vandalism has caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage and caused a great inconvenience to all the motorists involved.
The local police in the area have asked anyone to come forward with any information regarding the 2 nights in question or if they saw anybody acting suspicious. The incident was the worst case of vandalism in the area for a long time but think this attack of vandalism was completely random with and people affected weren’t targeted.
Police in the area are led to believe that this incident maybe linked to a previous attack when a number plate was stolen silver Citroen C4 parked on a driveway in Clay Road.
Anybody with any information should come forward and contact Pc Robert Farrow on 01284 774100 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.
