car body repairA new training centre for training up vehicle repair technicians has been opened in Enfield, Essex. The centre has been set up to improve technician’s skills in body repairs, spraying and other  general vehicle repairs. The centre is now dubbed the best in the country due to the modern facilities which have been built. Located in Enfield, the idea for the centre came from the bosses at Southgate College, who wanted to create a learning environment in addition to investing in the car industry.

John Haynes, the education minister ,was invited to unveil the centre by the principal of the college David Byrne. The new centre has all the latest training equipment to develop the skills of novice and advanced apprentices in the motor trade.

The construction of the centre took 10 months to complete; investing in a 2.5 million pound budget to get the centre up and running. The centre will benefit companies all across London because there was a great need for a facility like this to be set up in the area.

Students from across London will now have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications in the motor trade, and will attend the centre for a five year cycle, learning various skills for all the latest equipment in the industry.

Mr Haynes stressed the need for the centre in the area and said:

“We wanted to try to help out people and put something back into the industry.”

After going on a tour around the centre Mr. Haynes also said it’s vital that the government invests in the training of young people.
