A car that was built 107 years ago is still going strong, and the owners claim that not only is it still running like new today, but it has never broken down.
The vehicle, a Wolseley 6, was build in 1904 and is owned by Mr and Mrs Casey , both 65, from Sheborne in Dorset. They regularly take the car out for a spin in their local area and it even passed it’s MOT test recently!
The car has a top speed of 29mph, but due to it being built at a time in which mileometers were not fitted to British cars, it is impossible to know how many miles it has actually done. The car even still has it’s original number plate and is able to travel 30-40 miles on a gallon of petrol fed to a one cylinder motor, making it more efficient than a large number of cars that can be purchased on today’s market!
The current owners found a photo of the car being driven two years after it was made, over 100 years ago. They managed to find an ancestor David Forbes, whose step-father’s grandfather was the man in the picture, a Mr Jack Greenly. Brian kindly took the car to Mr Forbes’s house and took him out for a spin. Mr Forbes said that the car looked and sounded like it had been well maintained and taken good care of.
The car, that was one of the first cars manufactured by The Frederick Wolseley Company in Birmingham, has had an appearance in the Brighton run and Mr Casey even hopes to take it to the upcoming Great Dorset Steam Fair.
