Ash motorists feel let down by Surrey County Council after plans to repair a pothole-ridden road were postponed.
Heath Vale Bridge Road in Ash Vale was due to be resurfaced in January but the work has now been postponed in favour of new-approved traffic calming measures.
Drivers believe that the pothole is a priority due to the damage it can cause to their cars. Dave Thomas of Gosling Close had his car suspension repaired last year costing him £400 and on January 24th his car failed his MOT because of it. Angered, he questioned whether the council should pay for damage to vehicles due to the postponement.
Peter Brumich has also suffered damages to his BMW, after his back springs needed to be fixed costing him £100, damage he attributes to the poor condition of the road.
Nigel Manning, the Borough Councillor and Chairman of the Ash Parish, lost the springs on the back of his car and agrees with the drivers that something needs to be done about the road. The road’s top surface was broken up when the bridge was installed and he intends to chase up the now-postponed resurfacing, and put pressure on to have it fixed.
A road close notice went up warning motorists that the route is subject to work, and the road will be closed off in stages. Drivers are worried that the increase in traffic caused by the work will only increase the damage to the road.
Councillor Manning notes that the traffic may increase due to the roadworks but sees this as unavoidable if plans to have the road fixed by March are to be met.
