Car smashing resulting from theives in the Isle of Wight

smashed car windowOn Sunday the 20th February, Joshua Benstead returned to his car after leaving it overnight on on a road in the Isle of Wight, to discover that the window had been smashed. When being interviewed, he quoted to the Isle of Wight radio that this had also happened to another 8 cars along the same road, whereby the windows were smashed to enable thieves to rummage around the car looking for valuables to steal.

Luckily for Joshua, he didn’t leave anything of value in his car so nothing was actually stolen, but he still had to foot the £225 bill to get the window replaced, money which he claimed he didn’t have to spare.
As a resident of the Isle of Wight for some years, Joshua was left in shock that this had happened living in such a quiet and close knit community. He also stated that he had left his car there on numerous occasions before and didn’t expect anything like this to happen because it had always been a safe place to park overnight.

The thing that scared him the most was the fact that he could have been sitting in the car when this incident happened. Police are desperately appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information regarding the incident, which was alleged to take place between 1pm on the 20th February and 7am the following morning.

Anybody who saw or knows of anything that happened should come forward immediately to help the Hampshire police with further enquiries, so please call 101 if you have any information.
