New Norfolk bus route design causes driving problems

In March this year, a completely new bus route was opened in the area of King’s Lynn by Norfolk County Council.
However there is a problem with the route, as the bus drivers have not been able to make use of this new route due to a narrow bend. Whitefriars Primary School is located right next to this tight bend on the bus route, teachers at the school feel that the area isn’t safe for around 302 children crossing the road.

It has been advised by Norfolk Green buses, which control the service, that all of its employees that drive on the route will require specialist training.  It has also been said from a spokesman of Norfolk County Council, that the narrow bend can only be used by a single-decker bus.  Project engineer Quentin Brogdale advised that it was expected that the new road would create problems for buses, but after the route has been tried and tested, they have realised that some are even scrapping the kerb and finding it difficult around the tight bend.  Director, Ben Colson of Norfolk Green buses, also advised that they are short on staff at the moment due to illness, but training will be carried out for the route.

The route now connects Wisbech Road to Boal Street, and the reason it was built was to help reduce the problem of congestion on London Road which is nearby.  There is also a school on the bus route, meaning that pupils have to cross this particular section of road.
