When Rover collapsed nearly six years ago, the manufacturing of the British Rover car came to an end, with the impact affecting thousands of employees who lost their jobs. However, 6 years on, one of the factories that closed down; Longbridges in Birmingham, has been signified as a new wave of production has been carried out.
The car that has been manufactured is the MG6, a sporty number that has been named as the first all-new MG in the last 16yrs. It is part of a new project that MG are embarking on in conjunction with Chinese manufacturers, making the car parts ready for them to be shipped over here and put together in the Midland’s factories.
In the Longbridge’s Factory there is one female worker, her name is Lisa Pointer and it was her job in the unveiling to drive the car off the production line, using smoke machines to celebrate the new car release.
This is helping the road to recovery for the old MG/Rover factory as it is now employing over 400 people in different roles such as engineering, assembly, and design.
This is being branded as a new beginning for the MG and is definitely a step in the right direction to bringing MG back to life, and this will also hopefully help the unemployment in the area too.
The news is a far cry from the company that had so much bad press when it went into administration in April 2005, and dismissed more than 6,000 employees. Hopefully, the release of this new MG will mean future success for the original British brand.
