Volkswagen are set to release the new shape for their popular Beetle car design in 2012.
The Volkswagen, which used to be called the Kafer (meaning Beetle in German), in the earlier 1900’s, changed its name to the Beetle in 1967 when they went corporate in the U.S. The later shape came after 13 years of the last shape which is well known for it’s more curvy look and perky attitude.
However, the news of the new remodel may anger fans of the original beetle as the new one will be less bulbous, with a flatter roof, narrowed windows and a shape crease down both sides of the car. This also comes with a 2.5 litre five cylinder gasoline engine or you can have the 2 litre turbo charged gas engine in either a five speed or six.
The plan of the German car firm is to compete higher in the US for it’s smaller car market because of it being more competitive than it was when the last Beetle was made in 1998. The demand for smaller cars has also risen due to the increase in fuel prices and the emphasis on carbon emissions. They also want to compete with the sales market and over the next 10 years want to treble their income from the sales of cars, vans and trucks.
