Worcester fuel price increases

petrol pumpPetrol prices have increased massively over the past month, by roughly three pence. However drivers in Worcester have really felt the pressure. When the drivers of Worcester are buying petrol they are actually paying higher than the national average.
The cost in Worcester for the fuel is now averaged at 137.65p to buy unleaded petrol, for diesel its 143.43p. But on average nationally, the cost for unleaded petrol is 136.54p and 142.65p for diesel.
After the budget announcement for the 1p duty cut from Chancellor George, Worcester News reported last month that garages had been made to higher their prices again.

The owner, Roy Devlia, of Powick Petrol Station has advised that he had hoped the fuel prices would have dropped at the end of April, and said the rise in the cost was due to the fact that less people are buying.

Nigel Woodhouse, who for 35 years has owned Tolladine Service Station, has advised that garages such as himself have made very little, if any profit from the station’s petrol sales.
He advised that people believe garages are making money but the truth is they aren’t. When a garage has a low cost for fuel they are more than likely having the support from the oil company itself.
Nigel also has stated that garages like him need price control from the government otherwise he says he doesn’t know how much longer he can keep going. The fuel at the station doesn’t even cover a salary.

In relation to the situation, a spokesman for Tesco has advised that they aim to be competitive with the prices, also providing a local pricing policy.
