Rise of car sharing schemes

cars on car parkThere is now a huge on-line marketplace for car seats which are not being used. Drummond Gilbert, 29, came up with the environmentally friendly idea to utilise all the empty seats in vehicles to transport festival goers in a greener way.Gilbert is intending to pioneer this scheme at the Hay Festival of Literature. Set up in 2009, the website www.gocarshare.com, was invented to make the planet a greener place, with  5,000 registered users currently using the service. Gilbert is also working closely with several large festivals in the UK, and has already been shortlisted for a European best environmental start-up award.

On an average day in the UK it has been reported that there are more than 38 million empty car seats, so if all of these seats were filled, this would cause a lot less pollution. The roads would also be less congested and car owners would also save a lot of money because it is more economical to have a car full of people than to use alternative methods of transport.
The website has been designed to be used with the social media website Facebook to enable users of the site to be able to share lifts with friends and collegues. To aid in the practicality of this, people will be able to find a lift within minutes of logging on.

Drummond always dreamt of being an entrepreneur and last year his dream came true, however he did have to sacrifice his London flat and move back in to his parents Oxfordshire home, but since the business has taken off it has been all worth it to achieve his dream.
