car vandalismVandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a number of cars in the area of Halliwell. Police are currently trying to track down the person who has caused this damage.

The vandal poured a corrosive liquid, thought to be brake fluid, onto around 16 cars parked in streets in a residential area and police officers believe that the substance used in this attack that has stripped the paintwork from the surface of the cars may have been brake fluid.

The cost of the damage to each of the cars concerned would cost in a range of £100 to repair. Initial thoughts were that this was a random attack with no motive, the police have reported.

After looking at the incident in more depth the police are beginning to suspect the vandalism may be the actions of a resident who is not pleased regarding the parking situation in the area. The cars in question were parked in a few streets close by Halliwell Road and Brownlow Way, and the police have said that the victims were not connected.

In the area now since this incident, police patrols have been increased. The police team of Bolton East Neighbourhood ,which Sgt John Boyce is leading, has announced that incidents of this nature are very rare and also wants to reassure residents in the area that they are doing everything in their power to catch the culprits.

They also believe that someone in the area knows who is responsible for this incident. Anyone with information can contact The East Bolton Neighbourhood Police Team on 0161 865 5761 or crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
