A government backed agency say 1,500 new jobs have been created by automotive suppliers in the West Midlands region.MAS, the Manufacturing Advisory Service, said suppliers had benefited from a global export increase by car companies in the West Midlands.
Supply chains had experienced a wave of optimism due to the increase in export orders, to the tune of 31%, according to MAS. The benefits are being felt by textile companies and component suppliers throughout the region.
Rachel Eade of MAS said that the automotive sector in the UK had experienced one of the most promising twelve month periods in recent history, following what began as an uncertain year. The feeling of optimism is expected to continue into next year as orders stem from future and ongoing vehicle models made in the UK.
Ms Eade goes on to say that over 700 orders for car maker Morgans latest three wheel model and the Malvern based company have sourced the majority of the parts directly from within the West Midlands.
CabAuto, based in Tipton, supply trim interiors for Aston Martin and Jaguar Land Rover, just two of several car makers they supply to in the West Midlands.
John Faulkner, CAB’s managing director, said the past year had seen an increase of 33% to the workforce with the creation of an additional 57 jobs. Plus, based on their new orders, an investment of £2million is being made in new equipment.
The Jensen Interceptor from CPP Global Holdings will be designed, developed and manufactured by the specialist car manufacturers in Coventry.
