At the Royal Automobile Club headquarters in London, the former Formula One car designer Gordon Murray, revealed his 100 per cent electric version of his small urban car.
The T.27 is a mini version of the T.25 that he showed last year, has been designed for city use and could carry 3 people.
The designer believes that this is the way forward and a mark in history for cars of the future. The fact that this car is all-electric means that even the RAC feel that this is the most efficient electric car that has been made to date.
The tiny vehicle is driven by a 25kw electric motor and this allows it to do a maximum speed of 65mph over a 100 mile distance, a competitive amount in the electric car market. Other electric vehicles achieve similar ranges.
The T.27 is only 2.5 metres long, and has the distinctive layout of the driver being on its own in the front with two passengers in the back.
As a road vehicle it has passed all the relevant tests and in the high speed impact test there was no ‘cabin intrusion’ shown.
The car has not yet had any standard crash testing or other tests carried out by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This association was extremely critical of the Wheego whip at the beginning of the year and this car is similar in stature.
Fans of the T.27 will be able to follow its progress in the RAC future cars challenge in London in November, which has cars travel 60 miles between the British cities of Brighton and London.
